FEDERAL AND STATE:
Support the Legislative Efforts of the Parkland Survivors:
Based on what I saw on Saturday, many of you attended a March for Our Lives event. Y’all are awesome people and showed the world that you can never count out North Carolina’s emerging political tsunami! So now, you’ve heard the speeches. You know the statistics. Now it’s time to act. You can use the following talking points, taken from the Parkland survivors themselves and call or fax your lawmakers. Don’t mess with students, parents, and other concerned citizens when it comes to our safety! Let’s make some noise in Raleigh and Washington, DC!
Hello, I am a constituent calling from ________________ to urge Sen./Rep./Gov./Attorney General to take action on the issue of gun violence. The United States has one of the worst levels of gun violence in the world, and lawmakers need to act now. Here are several things I would like to see you do to address this problem: 1) Digitize the ATF's gun sales database; 2) Repeal the Dickey Amendment, which prohibits the CDC from studying gun violence; 3) Ban assault-style weapons and establish a buy-back program; 4) Ban high-capacity magazine sales; and 5) Close gun show loopholes by requiring background checks on all gun sales. I am a registered voter, and your actions on common-sense gun laws will have a huge effect on how I vote in upcoming elections. Thank you for taking my call.

BONUS FEDERAL ACTION:
John Dowd is out, a lawyer long credited with keeping Trump from mentioning, let alone firing, Special Counsel Robert Mueller. In comes Joseph diGenova, another shrill talking head from Fox News spouting wild conspiracy theories about Clinton, the FBI, and the Justice Department, the sort of depraved diminution of our nation’s critical intelligence community Trump has traded in ever since he has been in the crosshairs of investigations. Tepid assurances from GOP leadership that there is some kind of “red line” do nothing to stem the darkening clouds on the horizon that portend a collision between our POTUS and Mueller. Mitch McConnell will be fiddling while Trump burns the Constitution at this rate. We must demand that our reps at least nominally, if not legally, protect Mueller. Senators Coons and Tillis have long sponsored a bill that would do make it much more difficult for Trump to summarily fire the Special Counsel. It’s time Congress acted on it.
I am a constituent calling from _________ to demand that Rep./Sen. _________ promote and support the bill sponsored by Senators Coons and Tillis to protect Special Counsel Robert Mueller. President Trump has just added an extremist to his legal team, a lawyer who has repeatedly and publicly undermined the credibility of the investigation and the FBI itself. When will Congress act to protect this crucial investigation? Thanks for taking my call.
