Eliminate Debt Ceiling Fights Forever:
A day after siding with the Democrats on temporary debt ceiling relief, President Trump on Thursday agreed to with with them to eliminate the need to ever have these fights again. While the national debt is a real and serious problem, Congressional Republicans love to turn these “must-pass” votes into circuses for their extreme fiscal conservatism. Threats of shutdowns (or actual ones), jittery markets, and plummeting confidence of the populace in government is no way to, well, govern. Let’s take Congress back from the Freedom Caucus and the Tea Party and get back to actually running the country. Background:
I am constituent calling from _________ to urge Rep./Sen. _________ to support a proposal to permanently lift the cap on the debt ceiling. While the national debt is a serious problem, there is no need to face constant threats of a government shutdown. Please keep the government running while we work through our nation’s complex problems. Thanks for taking my call.

Oppose Changes to Campus Sexual Assault Policy:
On Thursday, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos announced long-rumored changes to the way her agency will handle sexual assault cases. Essentially, DeVos is caving to conservative pressure to roll back rules the Obama administration instituted to try and do something about the near epidemic of sexual violence on American campuses. Many attorneys general as well as rights’ groups urged the administration not to take this step, but DeVos did it anyway. The Department of Education will soon launch a portal for public comment, but in the meantime, we can call the agency directly to voice our displeasure. I am a citizen calling to voice my extreme displeasure with Thursday’s announcement to roll back Obama-era guidelines for handling campus sexual assault. Given the prevalence of these violent attacks, now is not the time to weaken protections. I want schools that are safe learning environments for all students, not places in which women feel unsafe. Thanks for recording my comment.

Thank Josh Stein for Joining the DACA Suit:
On Wednesday, North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein joined fifteen other states in suing the Trump administration for ending DACA. While this action is an uphill battle, it does help to highlight the injustice of Trump’s actions. It also sends a message to the world that North Carolina is not just Berger, Moore, and extremists like Speciale. We in fact have a long and storied tradition of principled liberalism. Background:
I am a North Carolinian writing/calling to thank the Attorney General for joining other states in bringing a suit against the Trump administration for ending DACA. I stand with Dreamers, and I stand with Josh Stein.
