Condemn Sarah Huckabee Sanders for Demanding Jemele Hill’s Firing
During the White House Daily Press Briefing on Wednesday afternoon, Sarah Huckabee Sanders called for ESPN (a private company) to fire Jemele Hill for daring to criticize the Trump. Regardless of what Hill said, the White House should not be pressuring companies to curtail the free speech rights of their employees. This is clearly a situation where the White House is attempting to have a chilling effect on free speech, and Congress needs to condemn that. Plus, Ms. Hill, who is a brilliant sports commentator, was right: Trump is a white supremacist.
Hello, I am a constituent calling from _______________ to demand that Sen./Rep. _________________ condemn White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ comments about ESPN sports analyst Jemele Hill. Sanders’ demand that ESPN fire Hill is a direct threat to freedom of speech and will have a chilling effect on others who want to criticize a politician publicly. Free speech is a fundamental value in our Constitution, and we must stand up for the rights of private citizens to criticize their elected leaders. Thank you for taking my call.
Condemn Sarah Huckabee Sanders and the White House Legal Team for Smearing James Comey
During the White House Daily Press Briefing on Wednesday afternoon, Sarah Huckabee Sanders called for the Department of Justice to investigate James Comey for allegedly illegally leaking information while he was the director of the FBI. This is the latest salvo in a coordinated attack on Mr. Comey in order to discredit, in advance, the former director’s testimony to any of the many committees investigating Trump. Just as in the example of Jemele Hill, these attacks are nothing short of an abuse of power. By using misinformation, suspicion, and in some cases, flat out lies, the White House is making the term “bully pulpit” quite literal. As noted in the attached background essay, this is “the stuff of petty strong-man dictatorships.” Feel free to wrap this topic into your call about Ms. Hill.
Hello, I am a constituent calling from _______________ to demand that Sen./Rep. _________________ condemn White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ comments about former FBI director James Comey. Sanders cast unfounded aspersions on Mr. Comey and suggested, as she did twice earlier in the week, that he be investigated by the Department of Justice. Using the mouthpiece of the White House to discredit a potential witness in an investigation that includes many in the president’s inner circle is the stuff of fascist dictatorships and must be strongly condemned by principled members of Congress. Thank you for taking my call.
