The Pence/Kobach Voting Commission Must Be Disbanded:

Kris Kobach is perhaps the nation’s most notorious proponent of the completely discredited idea that our voting system is riddled with systemic fraud, allowing millions to vote illegally. There is, in fact, fraud in our system, and it comes in the form of gerrymandering, voter suppression laws, and Russian soft hacking, none of which interest this commission. Now Kobach, a presidential appointee, is taking money from Breitbart to write opinion pieces in support of his commission’s work. This bogus committee must be disbanded immediately. Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer called for just this in late August, and even threatened to tie killing the commission to assisting some “must-pass” legislation. Now that Chuck and Nancy are best buds with Donald, we wonder what happened to this idea? Bipartisanship is great, but not at the sacrifice of something as fundamental as voting rights. Make no mistake: invented claims of fraud are exactly the cover many Republicans want to use to further suppress voting in ways that will disenfranchise minority voters and the poor. One need only study the 2016 North Carolina governor’s race to see a textbook example.

I am a constituent calling from _________ to urge Rep./ Sen. ___________ to work towards defunding and disbanding the Pence/Kobach Voting Commission. The work of this body has been vigorously opposed by governors and secretaries of state from red and blue states, and its underlying premise--that millions of people voted illegally--has been discredited by multiple studies. In late August, Senator Schumer threatened to tie defunding this commission to raising the debt ceiling or passing a federal budget. As a voter, I cannot urge you more strongly to protect the actual integrity of my ballot by disbanding this fraudulent commission. Thanks for taking my call.
