Demand Congressional Oversight on Trump’s Afghanistan Plan:
Donald Trump promised to “win” in Afghanistan, but has offered no explanation for what that looks like. He offered no details about troop levels, about timelines, or about when an attack would take place. As one commentator on MSNBC observed, Trump just offered “a formula for a forever war.” The lack of detail over plans is dangerous, and we need to insist on oversight. Tillis has already spoken out in favor of the speech, claiming that Trump offered a “detailed” plan.. We’ve already been in Afghanistan for 16 years, and Trump’s speech likely commits us to be there for several more years. Let’s push Congress to demand that Donald Trump seek approval for escalating the war.
Hello, I am a constituent concerned about Donald Trump’s speech last night about the war in Afghanistan. I want Sen./Rep. __________________ to insist that President Trump go to Congress to seek their approval for expanding the war. Trump has refused to disclose the number of troops that he would send to Afghanistan and has offered no clarity about what counts as “winning” the war. We need Congress to demand that Trump seek an authorization for using force in Afghanistan before he commits to any expansion of the war there.
Censure the Racist-in-Chief, and no Pardon for Sheriff Joe
Days after a jaw-dropping display of white supremacy, Donald Trump visits our southern border, and then holds a spiteful campaign rally in Phoenix, where he defended, like a bad attorney, his widely condemned remarks after Charlottesville, and blamed it on the media. Mr. Trump, the nation of tired of your scapegoating the other. We are tired of your bigotry, sick of your hate, and we reject your pandering to white supremacy. Days ago, you hailed Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona’s Maricopa County as a “patriot,” even though he has been sentenced to prison for illegally targeting anyone he suspected of being an immigrant. Sheriff Joe is a racist, bigot, and now a criminal, a symbol divisive hate, and you want to pardon him, now? We repudiate hate in all its forms, and we repudiate Donald Trump. Tell Congress to immediately censure Donald Trump, both for his remarks on Charlottesville, and for even considering to pardon Joe Arpaio.
I am a constituent calling from ________________ and I want Rep. _________________ to support Rep. Jerry Nadler’s censure bill. Trump’s comments after Charlottesville condoned the rationale used by white supremacists, and his visit to Arizona confirmed has fascist, racist ideology. Sheriff Joe Arpaio is a criminal who must not be pardoned. Trump’s comments show that he is unfit to be Commander in Chief, and I want Rep. ______________ to support the censure bill.

Fund Governor Cooper’s Proposal to Monitor Wilmington Drinking Water
Governor Cooper has proposed a modest $2.6 million emergency budget request to pay for water quality monitoring and a study to determine the health effects of GenX, the potentially dangerous chemical that Chemours was dumping into the Cape Fear River near Wilmington where it has seeped into the water supply. Amazingly, seven state senators including Michael Lee, a New Hanover Republican, have challenged that request. Our state has a budget surplus, so this should be a no-brainer. But members of the NCGOP seem committed to doubling down on reducing regulations at all costs. Let’s call and demand that the the NCGA support Cooper’s request. You can thank Governor Cooper while you’re making calls. Also, if you live near Wilmington, there is a meeting tomorrow at 1:30 of the NCGA’s Environmental Review Commission. The meeting will be held at the New Hanover County Government Center. This is an important opportunity to make your voice heard in person and to tell your personal stories about why this issue is so important.
Hello, I am a constituent from _________________ calling to ask Sen./Rep. ___________________ to support Governor Cooper’s request for $2.6 million to pay for increased water quality monitoring in Wilmington and for a study to determine the health effects of Gen X and other chemicals. It is essential that we provide citizens with safe drinking water, and carefully monitoring the water supply will help to protect everyone. Because there is some uncertainty about the effects of GenX, we also need a study to confirm whether it should be regulated. As it is, it’s part of a family of chemicals known to cause cancer and other health problems. Please support this funding request that will help take an important step toward guaranteeing the safety of our water supply. Thank you.
Hello, I am a constituent calling Governor Cooper to thank him for standing up to protect our water supply. While the $2.6 million budget request may not fully prevent polluters from damaging our water, it is an important step in the right direction. Thank you for your time.
