It’s called the Regulatory Accountability Act of 2017 (RAA), and it’s an extremely dangerous bill that the Senate will soon vote on. The RAA will impact nearly every American under the guise of a “harmless” procedural change. Introduced by Senators Portman (R-OH) and Heitkamp (D-ND), the bill changes long-standing rules on how federal agencies regulate everything from food safety to toxic chemicals to equipment failure at nuclear power plants—things that keep us all safe. This bill has already passed the House. Republicans are quietly ramming this bill through Congress and we have to act quickly to stop them.

Hi. My name is ______, calling from zip code ______. I'm strongly urging Senator _______ to oppose S.951 (RAA). The so-called Regulatory Accountability Act will make it easier for corporations to block the rules that keep us safe. This bill will save corporations big money, but at what human cost? Will Senator _____ stand up for science and protecting public health by opposing this dangerous bill? Please let me know where he stands on this very important issue. Thank you.

HB 674: Amend the NC Constitution to Ensure Fair and Independent Redistricting

On Monday, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled–once again–that our lawmakers used racial gerrymandering to draw district lines, this time for state House and Senate boundaries. We know that because of the way the lines were drawn, the Republicans hold a super-majority; the Democrats did the same thing when they were in power. What we need is an independent mechanism to draw fair lines. This bill would alter the NC Constitution so that districts will forever be drawn by an independent commission. The bill includes some important philosophical concepts, such as one person, one vote.

I am a constituent calling from _______ to urge Rep./Sen. _______ to support HB 674, a bill that would amend the NC Constitution to mandate independent redistricting. The Supreme Court continues to reject appeals that attempt to defend our gerrymandered districts. We need to draw new lines in a fair and independent manner in order to comply with the law. Thanks for taking my call.
