Reports are saying that Donald Trump is “poised” to pull out of the Paris Climate Accord. Doing so would have devastating consequences on our environment and would put us outside the mainstream on climate change for pretty much the entire planet. While Trump has not officially announced his decision yet, 22 Senators, including “moderate” Thom Tillis have signed a public letter endorsing withdrawal from the Paris Accord. The staffers we talked to fumbled repeatedly when we challenged them to defend Tillis’s actions. Let’s call Tillis and demand that his staffers defend the letter and call Burr and continue to push him to support staying in the Paris Accords. And if you really want to be a smartass with staffers, you could remind them that even the CEO of Exxon thinks we should stay in the Paris Accords. We also went ahead and wrote scripts for the House for good measure. All of the GOP contingent denies climate change.

Tillis Script:
Hello, I am a constituent from ______________ and I am calling to understand why Senator Tillis signed a letter recommending that we withdraw from the Paris Accords. [Wait for response]. That is not a valid reason for pulling out of the Paris Accords. Climate change is a serious threat to the stability of our planet, and it is absolutely vital that we continue to follow out Clean Power Plan and focus on developing renewable energy sources. Please tell Senator Tillis to reverse his position on the Paris Accords.

Senator Thom Tillis

Burr Script:
Hello, I am a constituent from ______________ and I am calling to confirm Senator Burr’s position on the Paris Climate Accords. It is my understanding that he did not endorse the letter calling for withdrawal. Is that correct? [Wait for response]. Please let Senator Burr know that it is absolutely critical that we stay in the Paris Accords. Withdrawing with further alienate us from the global community and will have devastating effects on our climate. We need to continue following the Clean Power Plan and focus on developing renewable energy sources. Thank you for your time.

Oppose HB 746, Conceal Carry Without a Permit: Next Steps

This terrible bill somehow made it out of Judiciary today, and tomorrow it heads to the Finance Committee. Sources inside the General Assembly report that Judiciary Committee members were flooded with calls and emails today. The bad news is that canned scripts are being dismissed out of hand. The bill is complicated in its various stipulations for who can and cannot use its provisions. But the basic premise behind the bill is simple, and must be opposed: it would allow people to carry concealed handguns without a permit. Keep in mind that it is already legal to openly carry without any paperwork. This bill is being heard first thing in the morning; email the reps listed below as soon as possible.

The important piece is this: when you email, you must write in your own words.
