FEDERAL:
Here Comes a Health Care Vote & it Still Includes a Waiver Exempting Congress!:

As Republicans rush to vote on their latest ObamaCare repeal-and-replace plan, it appears to still include a waiver exempting members of Congress and their staffs from losing the healthcare bill's popular provisions! They are saying there will be separate legislation that would close that loophole! NOT BUYING IT!
On Wednesday, the GOP threw $8 billion toward covering preexisting conditions in an attempt to sway moderates who were concerned about the death of that popular provision from the ACA. Not all House moderates are sold, however, and many observers find the amount of money and the lack of specifics troubling. As Senator Chuck Schumer put it, this revision “ is like administering cough medicine to someone with stage four cancer.” Shoring up the existing health law is still the best way to cover the maximum number of Americans, but the GOP has staked its soul to the idea of repealing it, and in that divided party, no faction wants to be seen as responsible for a failure of this magnitude. The new amendments may be a bandaid to the massive problems of the AHCA, but they do not alter the fact that at its core, the new law would cut coverage for millions while giving away huge tax cuts to the wealthy. Some GOP leaders feel confident of a win this time. We must do everything we can to prevent that.

SCRIPT:
Hi. My name is _______, I'm calling from zip code __________ to urge Representative ________ to reject the latest version of the GOP health bill. The new amendments are vague and do not offer adequate funding for people with preexisting conditions, and exempt Congress from losing ACA's most popular and necessary provisions. This is unacceptable. Plus, there is not even a CBO score yet, which begs the question, why are you in such a hurry to vote on a bill without knowing the consequences or cost? Instead, please support full funding for the current law of the land, the ACA. Thank you for recording my call.

STATE:
SB 553: Revoke Consent for Intercourse:

North Carolina is one of the only states in the country that does not allow women to revoke consent for sex once it is given. This is due to a terrible 1979 North Carolina Supreme Court ruling in which a judge came to that conclusion. The bill has become a quest for Amy Guy, a brave Carolina woman, who was forced by her ex-husband to have sex despite her revoking consent. Rock star Senator Jeff Jackson is also fighting for this bill and trying to find a way to introduce it despite the fact that new bills cannot be introduced for the next two years. If we make some noise about this bill, we may be able to get a hearing on it and to turn over a completely inhumane law.

Hi, I am a constituent calling from _______________ to urge Rep./Sen. ____________ to support SB 553, the Revoke Consent for Intercourse bill or a similar bill. Our current law states that once someone gives consent for sex, she or he cannot revoke consent.” There are many situations in which someone might choose to revoke consent, and they should be protected. North Carolina is one of the only states in the country in which no doesn’t mean no. We need to provide women with the protection they need and change this unfair law. Thank you for your time.
