Tell your Senators to OPPOSE S.951 Regulatory Accountability Act of 2017 (RAA).
It’s called the Regulatory Accountability Act of 2017 (RAA), and it’s an extremely dangerous bill that the Senate will soon vote on. The RAA will impact nearly every American under the guise of a “harmless” procedural change. Introduced by Senators Portman (R-OH) and Heitkamp (D-ND), the bill changes long-standing rules on how federal agencies regulate everything from food safety to toxic chemicals to equipment failure at nuclear power plants—things that keep us all safe. Republicans are quietly ramming this bill through Congress and we have to act quickly to stop them.
THEY HOPE THIS BILL WON'T GET ATTENTION—that’s why they’re pushing it through so quickly. The RAA has already passed the House, so we need to make sure Senators hear from us NOW. We must act quickly to make sure Congress knows it is NOT OKAY to shut down new health and safety standards.
SCRIPT FOR SENATORS:
Hi, my name is ______, from zip code ____. I'm calling to strongly oppose the so-called Regulatory Accountability Act, S.951. This bill will make it easier for corporations to block the rules that keep us safe. The EPA’s climate rule alone, which corporations are already trying to block, is estimated to prevent more than 3,000 premature deaths annually. I’m deeply concerned about politicizing regulations. Clean air and clean water shouldn’t depend on who is in the White House. Will Senator _____ commit to me, his constituent, that he won’t agree to any bill that obstructs and politicizes the regulatory process necessary to keep our communities safe? Please take down my contact information so that Senator _______ can let me know where he stands on this. I will be watching this bill very closely. Thank you.

Save the Governor’s School
For over fifty years, the Governor’s School of North Carolina has served as more than just a school for gifted high schoolers. In addition to its wide-ranging and rigorous curriculum, the school offers young North Carolinians from all areas of the state of the state to learn together while exchanging diverse viewpoints and and sharing experiences that reflect the particularities of their communities. This state treasure that has touched thousands of lives is now threatened by the NCGA Senate budget. There is a huge movement amongst alums to save the school.
Hello, I am a constituent from _________________. I am calling to urge Sen./Rep. _______________ to please save the North Carolina Governor’s School from elimination in the new state budget. This institution has served the talented young people of our state well for over fifty years and should be continued. Thanks for recording my call.
