Cuts to Medicaid and Food Stamps:
Trump’s proposed budget would result in massive cuts to the safety net, including huge cuts to Medicaid, as well as rules that would allow states to dramatically reduce other benefits, including Food Stamps. The Medicaid cuts roughly match the bill passed by the House, which would cut Medicaid by $800 billion over the next decade, cutting 10 million people off from receiving benefits. The budget would also make significant cuts to SNAP, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which provides food assistance to approximately 42 million Americans, allow states to exercise discretion in SNAP eligibility. Like so many other proposals by Trump and the other belligerent conservatives, this would put the health and well-being of millions of people at risk.

Hello, my name is _________, I'm calling from zip code ________. I am calling to urge Sen./Rep. _______________ to oppose the dramatic cuts to Medicaid and SNAP, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, proposed in the Trump budget. Most estimates suggest that the cuts to Medicaid would result in up to ten million people losing their Medicaid eligibility. SNAP is also a vital program that helps guarantee access to nutritional food for millions of people. We need to continue funding these programs at current levels. Thank you for recording my call.

End Wage Theft in North Carolina
The Economic Policy Institute recently published an analysis of wage theft in the United States, and it turns out that North Carolina workers suffer greatly from this problem. The study found that some 12.3% of the state’s minimum wage workers lose about a third of their income due to what amounts to theft. The problem is one of weak laws, so we are calling on our legislators to enact specific measures to enact new legislation calling for stricter penalties for violating the minimum wage, but also one of enforcement, so another call to action goes out to our state labor commission. It is next to impossible to live on $7.25 per hour; imagine making do with less than five!
SCRIPT for Legislature:
I am a constituent calling from __________ to urge Rep./Sen. _________ to enact laws that would exact stricter penalties from companies that violate federal minimum wage laws. A recent study by the Economic Policy Institute found that over 12 percent of low-wage workers in the state have about a third of their income stolen. Thanks for recording my call.
SCRIPT for NC Labor Department:
I am a constituent calling from __________ to urge the Labor Department _________ to enforce laws against companies that violate federal minimum wage laws. A recent study by the Economic Policy Institute found that over 12 percent of low-wage workers in the state have about a third of their income stolen. Thanks for recording my call.
