Save ACA Subsidies

The Affordable Care Act is the law of the land for now, but Congress and the Trump administration are threatening key subsidies that keep the program solvent. With the current uncertainty insurers are beginning to pull out of the exchanges, which could precipitate a collapse. GOP lawmakers have to decide now: do they want to stake everything on a new, untested, and unpopular plan, the AHCA? Do they want to be on the hook for millions losing insurance? In order to save the ACA, it is critical that they feel continuous constituent pressure.

Hi. My name is _________, I'm a constituent calling from zip code _______.  I am hearing disturbing news that Donald Trump has told his advisers he wants to end payments of key Obamacare subsidies. This would send the health law's insurance markets into a tailspin, and cause millions to lose their insurance. I need Rep./Sen. _________ to make sure the subsidies for the Affordable Care Act are not used as a political football. The ACA is the law of the land and the subsidies must remain.  Will Rep./Sen. _________ pledge to do whatever it takes to make sure the subsidies for the ACA remain intact? Thank you.

Cuts to food programs in NC budget

Food insecurity is a vexing concern in North Carolina, yet the recently passed GOP budget cuts access to federal food assistance for some 133,000 people–55,000 of the children–while saving the state no money, since the program is federally funded. The twisted logic for the cut is that this program allows people to qualify through means tests of other aid programs that make it slightly easier to qualify. The undercurrent of this line of thinking is that some people may be mooching off the system. Given the rampant poverty, lack of high paying jobs, and the fact that over a third of these recipients are children, this cut is simply cruel. In addition, the budget cuts out funding for fresh produce for areas that are designated as food deserts. The budget is in the House, so we are directing calls there.

I am a constituent calling from _________ to request that Rep. ___________ reinstitute food assistance for some 133,000 North Carolinians who stand to lose access under the new budget. This aid costs the state no money. Please help North Carolina families and children get the food assistance they need. Thanks for recording my call.
