We have been calling on our Representatives to appoint a Special Prosecutor/Counsel for over three months and late yesterday it finally happened!
This is a monumental win for and by all of us in The Resistance. This result was NOT a forgone conclusion. Rather, it was brought about by a combination of patriots in government and very importantly, the dedication of civic activists like YOU, who care about our Democracy.
Without citizens nationwide making calls to Congress, protesting, writing letters, etc., we would not be where we are!
So let's take a victory lap together! WooHoo! I'm doing my quick victory dance, and yes, I comforted by the fact that you cannot see it. It's not pretty, but we deserve to throw our hands in the air like we just don't care!
Congratulations fellow Indivisibles!

AHCA Nuclear Option (Senate only)

Politico is reporting that Rand Paul and Ted Cruz are looking at options that would allow the AHCA to pass the Senate without achieving a filibuster-proof majority through a process known as reconciliation. They would also violate existing norms about reconciliation by having Mike Pence preside over the reconciliation process rather than a nonpartisan government employee. The attempt is even unpopular with many Republicans, but it does two things: (1) it is an attempt to repeal some of Obamacare’s most important provisions and (2) it further weakens the checks and balances against an unpopular Republican Senate majority.

Politico story here:

Hi. My name is  ______, I'm a constituent calling from zip code _______. I would like to urge Senator ________ to oppose Senator Cruz and Senator Paul’s attempts to pass a repeal of the ACA through reconciliation. This is a direct violation of the intent of the legislative filibuster, and it also sets the stage for repealing aspects of the ACA that are enormously popular. Please tell Senator ______ to oppose Cruz and Paul’s efforts to repeal the ACA through reconciliation. Thank you.

NC Budget: Call for more funding for beginning and experienced teachers

The NC Senate and Roy Cooper each have a plan to increase teacher pay, but for brand new and experienced teachers, the plans are starkly different. Right now we face a crisis in attracting and retaining new educators due to low pay and poor benefits. Neighboring states pay significantly higher starting salaries. At the other end of the career arc, the Senate budget gives no raise whatsoever to the most experienced teachers. While these educators do cost the state the most money, their expertise and experience and invaluable. Given North Carolina’s recent history of underfunding schools, combined with a budget surplus, we think it is high time for the state to pay teachers what they deserve.

Hello, I am a constituent calling from _____________. I would like to urge Sen./Rep. ____________ to fully fund teacher salaries for new and experienced teachers. Thanks for recording my call.
