Yesterday the bipartisan House Oversight Committee concluded that Michael Flynn probably broke the law by not disclosing that he had taken money from foreign powers, including Russia. This comes right as the Trump White House refused to hand over documents to Flynn to the very same committee. Glaring questions remain unanswered: how did a man who was a paid foreign agent of an enemy power ever become elevated to head our nation’s national security? What does this say about the rest of the Trump campaign, transition, and White House staff? Why would they refuse to cooperate with a Congressional inquiry? We keeping seeing smoke, as news breaks daily involving shady Russian ties. The people want answers. Senator Burr is also culpable, dragging his feet when it comes to hiring staffers. In addition, he has neglected to sign off on requests for crucial information from the Trump campaign. We demand an independent investigation.

I am a constituent calling from __________ to urge Rep. / Sen. _________ to call for the immediate appointment of a special prosecutor or the formation of an independent Congressional committee to investigate Trump’s ties to Russia [and for Senator Burr to recuse himself from heading the Senate investigation]. The recent revelation that former national security director Michael Flynn lied about payments from Russia is shocking, and the White House’s refusal to cooperate with Congress about Flynn underscores the need for an independent inquiry. Thank you for recording my call.

Three BAD gun bills:
All three of the following bills are awful. You can probably lump them all into a single call.

HB 746, NC Constitutional Carry Permit Bill
This bill would allow North Carolinians who purchase their weapons legally not be required to obtain a concealed carry permit or go through the training courses.

HB 251: Allow Concealed Carry on UNC and Community College Campuses
Truth in advertising here. This bill would allow people to carry concealed weapons on all public college and university campuses in North Carolina. This is a bad bill because it would do nothing to prevent mass shootings (the common justification for allowing it) and would make college campuses more dangerous places.

HB 588: Omnibus Gun Changes
Allows multiple changes (according to TWW) including looser mental health screenings for permits, allowing people to concealed carry in churches that meet on school grounds, and repealing the pistol permit system.

Hi, I am a constituent from _______________ and I am calling to urge Rep. ______________ to vote against the following gun legislation: HB 746, HB 251, and HB 588. These bills would remove reasonable and necessary safety measures. They would allow people to concealed carry without a permit and would allow concealed carry on college campuses. Please vote against all three bills. Thank you for recording my call.

Additional action:
The House Judiciary committee will be meeting at 10 AM Wednesday to discuss these bills. Moms Demand Action is calling for people to attend and observe the committee meeting. Public pressure often works really well when legislators are trying to push through bad–or unpopular–legislation, so please try to show up (and wear red) if you can.
