Stop Thomas Farr from Being Confirmed as a Federal Judge
Raleigh Lawyer Thomas Farr has been nominated by Trump to become a federal judge for the eastern district of North Carolina, which spans 44 counties from Raleigh to the coast. Farr is best-known as the lawyer who defended the NCGOP’s voter ID bill and also defended their racially gerrymandered legislative maps. He’s bad news for voting rights and for democracy in general. His nomination will be reviewed by the judiciary committee Thursday morning at 10 AM, so if you can send a quick email or fax to the members of the judiciary committee (Tillis is a member) prior to the meeting, that would be ideal, but if not be sure to call your Senators and let them know that Farr is a dangerous opponent to voting rights and should not be seated on the federal bench.
Hello, I am a constituent calling from ______________________ and I want Sen. _________________ to oppose the nomination of Thomas Farr to the federal bench. Farr has frequently opposed voting rights and even defended North Carolina’s illegally restrictive voter ID law and also defended their legislative maps that were ruled to be racially gerrymandered. His actions as a lawyer cast serious doubt about his ability to defend our voting rights and his ability to make nonpartisan rulings. Thomas Farr should not be nominated to the federal bench. Please reject his nomination to the federal judiciary. Thank you.

Senate Bill 698: The Latest Step in the Slow-Moving Judicial Coup:
The North Carolina Senate GOP continued their Carolina Coup this week when they filed a constitutional amendment Tuesday that would shorten all judges and state Supreme Court justices terms to two years and end all sitting judges’ terms in December 2018. This is a deliberate attempt for the NCGOP to try to wrest control over the judiciary from the voters. Even some members of the GOP such Bob Orr, a prominent Republican who served as a justice on the state Supreme Court and as a candidate for governor, described the Constitutional amendment, Senate Bill 698, as a “continued effort to try and intimidate the judiciary.”” The bill is getting national attention...and not the good kind. We need to make sure our reps know that we consider SB 698 an attempted coup on our judicial system.
Hello, I am a constituent calling from ____________. I want to urge Sen./Rep. _______________ to oppose SB 698. This bill would shorten all judges’ terms to two years, including those for state Supreme Court justices. It would also end all sitting judges’ terms in December 2018. This bill is a clear effort to intimidate the judiciary and it is an undemocratic act of defiance against the voters who elected these judges to office. Do not support SB 698. Thank you for taking my call.
